Blossoming Inspiration in Creative Carnegie

By Matt Hurlston

The desire to raise a family in a friendly neighbourhood is what draws many parents to buy real estate in Carnegie, Malvern East and Murrumbeena.

With a selection of local schools and a council that's constantly pushing bright initiatives, these suburbs are certainly family-friendly spots in Melbourne.

Those who have creative offspring may encourage them to get involved in the City of Glen Eira's Youth Art Expo, which is open from those aged 10 right up to 25.

'The Youth Art Expo gives young artists who live, work, study or socialise in the City of Glen Eira an opportunity to showcase their creativity and share it with the local community," notes a March 31 council statement.

A range of mediums will be embraced when it comes to displaying young artists' work. Whether it's stunning photography, expressive painting, delicate drawing, sculpture or textiles, the council is currently seeking submissions.

Each person can enter one piece of work for display, with entries closing on May 2.

A judging panel will announce Youth Art Expo winners at the Glen Eira Town Hall on May 8. Those living in Carnegie and Malvern East real estate are encouraged to vote for their favourite works, too.
