Glen Eira council shining spotlight on community safety

By Matt Hurlston

In an encouraging sign for families looking at real estate in Bentleigh, Glen Eira City Council will be hosting a series of events aimed at promoting safety and well-being in the community.

The nature of the events means that they will be of particular interest to those with older members in their family. Held in easy-to-access locations around the area in conjunction with a variety of organisations, these free sessions will certainly be worth a look.

On 6 October, the Boyd Room at the Carnegie Library and Community Centre will be the scene of the "Confident living for older adults" presentation. In this particular workshop, community liaison officer leading senior constable Gary Oram will offer his insight on staying safe and secure both at home and out and about in the community.

A few weeks later on 28 October, the Caulfield Cup Room at Glen Eira Town Hall will host a safe community travel information session. Travellers Aid Australia and the RACV have teamed up to deliver this workshop, which is geared towards how to travel safely on all forms of public transport in Victoria.

The session will touch on topics such as how to use mobility aids on public transport, the ins and outs of the myki pass and general tips and advice on how to best navigate the public transport networks in the area. Residents of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.

Bookings are essential for both events, so get in early if you don't want to miss out!
