Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre Earns Sustainability Nomination

By Matt Hurlston

The development of the Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC) has earned the Glen Eira city council a nomination at the Premier's Sustainability Awards.

Nominated under the Infrastructure and Buildings category, the Glen Eira city council is also in the running for the Premier's Recognition award and the Premier's Regional Recognition award.

The GESAC facility uses sustainable design features that optimise user and operator safety to generate a positive environmental performance.

GESAC is one of the premier sports and aquatic centres in Victoria. It uses environmentally sustainable features and provides long-term leisure, sports, recreation, health and wellbeing opportunities.

Sustainability Victoria CEO Stan Krpan said Glen Eira's vision and innovation have proven the city council team are leaders when it comes to sustainability.

Glen Eira city council earned the nomination after utilising a number of operational design features, including pollution prevention, energy demand minimisation and rainwater harvesting.

The winners of the Premier's Sustainability Awards will be announced on Tuesday, October 22. Tickets for the ceremony are available to the public from now until 14 October.
