Improved Public Transport in Melbourne

By Matt Hurlston

Owners of real estate in Carnegie will be happy to hear the local public transport rail network is now more reliable and punctual, making traveling around Melbourne easier and additionally convenient.

"October 2013 figures show that a whopping 94.3 per cent of metropolitan trains were on time, compared with the October 2010 figure of 87.8 per cent," Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder said in a November 13 media release.

In particular, there was a 12.2 per cent rise of trains counted on time on the Cranbourne line between October 2010 and October this year. Currently, 90.3 per cent of trains arrive less than five minutes late, or on time.

Similar improvements were also seen on the Pakenham line, up by 14.7 per cent to reach 90.6 per cent in October this year.

Mr Mulder says new trains, extra services and increased maintenance investment are to thank for the more punctual and reliable rail network.

Residents of Carnegie and nearby Oakleigh real estate are also expected to see the benefits of further funding and improvements in the future.

The coalition government has budgeted more than $520 million towards public transport improvements in the 2013-14 Victorian Budget.
