Ray White Carnegie’s Matt Hurlston: Glen Eira wins 2014 Australia Sustainable Procurement Award

By Matt Hurlston

Sustainable residents of real estate in Bentleigh can be proud of their local council, with Glen Eira winning the 2014 Procurement Australia Sustainable Award earlier this week. As cleaner, greener lifestyles become increasingly popular, this could be great news for anyone interested in moving into the local community.

To be considered for the award, the council was required to have created and successfully implemented new sustainable policies and process addressing the reduction of the community's overall carbon footprint and emissions, as well as working towards conserving energy and protecting the current national climate.

Furthermore, water conservation, enhancement of local biodiversity and an effort to reduce waste across the community were also taken into consideration. Glen Eira Mayor Cr Neil Pilling said the area has continually outperformed other metropolitan areas in the region – especially with regards to environmentally-friendly expenditure.

"Council's procurement policy requires staff, where practicable, to consider purchasing environmentally-friendly products which offer value for money over the life of the product," said Mayor Pilling in a 29 September statement.
