Ray White Carnegie’s Matt Hurlston: Housing strategies move up the agenda

By Matt Hurlston

Melbourne and its suburbs are an attractive prospect, especially if you're looking for somewhere to live with a great quality of life.

However, efforts are being made in the Victorian capital to make real estate in Bentleigh and other parts of the city even more appealing through the launch of a draft housing strategy.

The aim is to make sure housing continues to meet the needs of people in Melbourne, while also giving future residents plenty of good reason to stick around.

"Affordable and high quality housing in the inner city is good for the economy because it brings people close to where they work and encourages investment and job growth," said chair of the Future Melbourne Planning Committee Ken Ong.

Melbourne has already seen its population double over the past 13 years and with this only likely to increase further, it makes perfect sense to start taking action sooner rather than later.

At the moment, the council is set on providing more than 1,700 affordable homes by 2021, which will no doubt come as good news if you're hoping to move to the region.
