Take part in Walk Safely to School Day

By Matt Hurlston

If like many families you've made the move to Oakleigh real estate, you might be interested in an annual event that promotes safety in your local area.

Walk Safely to School Day takes place up and down the country and will be happening on 23 May.

The idea of the event is to get primary school kids to walk safely to school, which can bring all sorts of benefits that you might not even have thought of.

Not only does it get kids to think about the health benefits of walking, but also gives them road-crossing skills that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Who knows, your youngsters might enjoy the stroll so much that they want to do it more often!

Terry Alexandrou, the City of Glen Eira Council's manager for transport planning, explained how the council had recently launched a Walking Strategy, which shows how important it is for kids to walk to and from school.

"We are working towards increasing the number of children walking to school by ten per cent as indicated in the strategy," he commented.

If you and your family are looking to buy Oakleigh real estate, why not get in touch with Matt Hurlston at Ray White Carnegie?
