If you own real estate in Carnegie or one of the surrounding suburbs and love to celebrate multicultural diversity, the upcoming Refugee Week in Monash City will be a fantastic opportunity for you to get involved.
This special event, which runs from June 17 to June 21 celebrates the range of refugee contributions to community.
Monash mayor Micaela Drieberg said this event is an opportunity to welcome people from different backgrounds into the community and enjoy being a part of the city’s diverse, multicultural community.
“More than 40 per cent of Monash residents were born outside Australia and recognising the wonderful contributions made by all the members of our community is really important,” she said in a statement released May 30.
Alongside the celebrations of cultures in Monash, there will be a focus on education – teaching advisory groups and staff about the needs of refugees as well as providing an understanding of the issues facing refugees before and after they reach Australia.
“As a Council, we are constantly working to raise awareness about the importance of a multicultural community and we pride ourselves on being one of the most welcoming and friendly municipalities in the country,” Drieberg sad.
