East Bentleigh Soccer Club | Olivia Petrou

By Sarah Vo

East Bentleigh Soccer Club—a place where the love of the game, whether you call it soccer or football, comes alive for players of all ages. We’re sure that both you and your child will enjoy being part of our club, where we focus on creating a positive, fun, and rewarding experience for every player.

Established in 1979, our club has grown into a vibrant, family-friendly community that welcomes both boys and girls starting from age 5 and up.

As one of the largest clubs in Victoria, we’re proud to support over 900 players across more than 60 teams, ranging from under-7s to our senior women’s and men’s squads. For the youngest players, aged 5 to 7, we also offer special skills sessions that introduce them to the basics of football in a fun and supportive environment.

We are incredibly proud to acknowledge that our very own staff member, Olivia, has been dedicatedly coaching the team for several years and we had the opportunity to engage with her in a thoughtful conversation and ask a few insightful questions.

What is your role there?
I am currently the sub-junior girls coordinator, managing all the teams from 8-11 years old
Also just completed my 5th year of coaching

Why Bentleigh Soccer Club?
This club is very close to my heart with my grandparents starting the club 45 years ago, I have been involved in various roles including a volunteer and players from a young age

How long have you been coaching for?
5 years have always coached under 8 & 9 girls which is their girl year playing.

What is something that you look forward to when coaching at Bentleigh Soccer Club?
I want to be a positive influence and role model for young girls, someone they can look up to and make sure they’re enjoying the game and continue to return and play at the club.  Always ensuring they’re having fun and learning skills.

How do you motivate your players before a big game?
I really refer to the Matildas a lot with them becoming so well known over the past year everyone knows who they are, I want to make them feel strong and my number one focus is to have fun
