Matt Hurlston of Ray White Carnegie: Increased support for foundation programs in Victoria

By Matt Hurlston

New foundation programs across Victoria aim to provide further support for students struggling with literacy and numeracy skills, which could be brilliant for families in Carnegie real estate hoping to provide their kids with the best possible opportunities for the future.

Minister for higher education and Skills Nick Wakeling announced courses aiming to improve the abilities of learners across the state, after seeing enrolments in similar programs surge from 31,600 in 2011 to 96,400 in 2013.

"As a result of our reforms, 42 per cent of enrolments in foundation courses this year are students who are not at school and who have not completed Year 12 or a Certificate II. This is up from 34 per cent in 2013," said Mr Wakeling in a 25 September statement.

"In Victoria, our industry participation model has ensured that 72 per cent of training is now in areas of skills shortage and employment growth – more than ever before."
