What’s On: Music in Melbourne

By Matt Hurlston

One of the reasons real estate in Oakleigh and other suburbs in Melbourne is so highly sought after is widely agreed to be the vibrant lifestyle in Victoria's festival-filled capital city.

In another display of Melbourne's prestigious arts scene, two music festivals are geared up to hit the town next week.

Melbourne Music Week

Melbourne Music Week will kick off on Friday November 15 with a concert at The Residence, before the festival takes off in earnest with hundreds of events including daily music performances, film viewings, workshops and activities for kids.

In addition to celebrating Melbourne's diverse music scene, the festival will offer food prepared by chefs from some of the city's top restaurants.

Mess and Noise Lunchbox Sessions will be held daily at the People's Garden from the November 18-22.

Melbourne Ring Festival

Also opening on November 15 is the Melbourne Ring Festival, presented by Opera Australia and the City of Melbourne.

This event is a celebration designed to complement the staging of the opera performance of Der Ring des Nibelungen in Melbourne.

Involving hundreds of artists, the festival includes a four week program of opera shows, music performances, film screenings and exhibitions.
